A week ago I decided to change my internet connection from XL megadata to Indosat Broadband im2. I took the XL megadata package of 250MB/month that costed me Rp 100rb/month. Finally the 250MB/mo is not enough anymore for me. That’s why when oneday me and my hubby went for windows shopping in a lazy afternoon to mall ambassador, where we met the sales counter of Indosatm2, I with no doubt (cieee) took the package immediately. I took the package of Im2 700MB/mo that costs me Rp 160rb/mo. The package comes with these advantages:

1. Email + anti spam + antivirus
2. 1GB premium mailbox + 100MB file sharing
3. Single Id untuk akses hotspot/cdma/akses via pstn
4. Koneksi ke international and domestik internet
5. Kelebihan pemakaian Rp 0.4/KB

The package doesn’t come with free HSDPA modem. I owned it separately. I don’t want a rental stuff for I don’t like the responsibility. I don’t like to bonded for 1year with Indosat. The agreement says if we discontinue the IM2 using before 1year, then the HSDPA modem will be returned back to Indosat, while we have paid the rental fee for months!! So, after buying the im2 package, I went for modem hunting.

As usual, before deciding to buy a particular stuff, the hunting process comes first. I browsed the internet, asked some people, and compared some modems based on the informations I got. Then I think I prefer modem Sierra Wireless Aircard 875 PCMCIA card which price is about Rp 950rb. The next day, I went to mall ambassador, but then found none. The stock was empty. It’s the most wanted modem pcmcia card. Ok, calm down, I spoke to my self. Other modem is good enough too. Long story short, I happened to buy Option GT Max 7.2 PCMCIA card with price was Rp 900rb. Not a bad choice, I thought.

After arrived back home, I tried to connect with a manual in hand. Hopla, it connected easily. But o oh…. the hsdpa signal is very very low, just 1 bar!!! Sometimes, the signal goes tozero which means I got no connection. Poor me. Desperately I searched for signal strengther (penguat signal), and it costs Rp 450rb. Oala…. money lagi donk!

Last weekend I went to Bandung to meet my sisters. There I bought a modem of Option GTMax 1.8 for my sister use. But unfortunately it can’t connect from her laptop but it works just fine with mine. Then, I agreed to change my modem with my sister. I went back to Jakarta with modem Option GT max 1.8.

You know something, it surprised me when I connected it for the first time from my kosan room. It transmits stronger HSDPA signal than the 7.2. Wow….The signalis about 3 bars. Here is the speed test result from speedtest.net

Not bad, eh? This far, I am so satisfied with Im2 broadband and Option GTMax 1.8. The speed is good, the connection is stabil, and the mobility is the main advantage. Unfortunately, it’s volume based not unlimited hehe….
